Environmental Committee
As part of St. Paul's Earth Day 2010 celebration, April 25, 2010, Social Justice Committee chair Leah Barton helps children plant seeds in cups to take home. People also were
- treated by Katz Coffee to a taste of three fair trade organic coffees. Environmental and Missions have teamed to pay the difference in price to serve fair trade organic coffee at St. Paul's.
- given H-GAC recycling guides. A link to these guides also is available. These guides not only provide information and ideas about recycling various materials but also where within the Houston-Galveston SMSA one can take various products for recycling.
- reminded of opportunities to recycle batteries and other products at St. Paul's
- encouraged to subscribe to the weekly Chimes e-letter that includes e-copies of the weekly printed newspaper
- told about the numerous green aspects of LEED certification of the Jones Building renovation and expansion
- asked to provide earth-friendly suggestions for St. Paul's to adopt. The church is in the process of responding to the suggestion of no longer using polystyrene cups. As the current supply of these cups is exhausted, they are being replaced by a combination of compostible and porcelain cups. In addition, the Youth have replaced disposable cups with re-usable cups, which include on them a request to return them to the Youth Center.
The event was organized by Josh Vanlandingham and Sarah Golightly-Pinkston. To be involved with the Environmental future of St. Paul's, contact Environmental chair Josh Vanlandingham.
